Safety is USITT's top priority when it comes to our members as well as the industry as a whole. As the world begins to reopen, it is imperative that our industry adapts to and puts into place new safety precautions and procedures. Many industry professionals as well as government health organizations have put together reopening guides, resources, and new safety procedure information in light of this "new normal" for our industry. View reopening guides and resources.

These resources are to be used as a tool for industry professionals to reference when preparing to host mass gatherings, and open their theatres, businesses, venues, etc. At this web address you will find links to these resources. This list will be updated weekly so be sure to check back from time to time.

During this unprecedented time, USITT is here to provide resources to our membership and beyond. Online learning, job opportunities, and industry resources are available year-round for those who may be out of work, those who are having to navigate the waters of teaching classes online that traditionally would not be suited as web-based education, and more. See link below for a list of various opportunities and information.

    A Note from the Chair

It has been my honor to serve the Intermountain Desert Section for the past four years.  While we are still very much a fledgling group, we have grown and made tremendous strides in creating a community for our local Theatre Technicians and Designers, from our universities with several thriving student chapters and dedicated educators to our professional members across our large region.

While we were not able to meet this year in Houston, it is my hope that everyone is safe and healthy and that we’ll see each other next year in Ohio.  It is an exciting time, with two new board members and a newly elected chair.  I am excited to see what they will offer in terms of education, development, and professional programming (not to mention, happy hours!).  Please join me in welcoming them!

Chair-Kim Scott is an original founding member of our section.  She joins us from sunny Las Vegas where she is the General Manager of Celestia and currently serves as the Treasurer of USITT.

Secretary-Jessica Greenburg is an Associate Professor of Lighting Design at Weber State University in Ogden, UT.

Member-at-Large-Kelly Simons is an Assistant Professor of Technical Direction at Utah State University in Logan, UT.

Together with Brent Innes (Vice Chair), Jaron Kent Hermansen (Treasurer), Wes Hamblin (Programming), and Spencer Potter (Membership) we have a great team. We’d like to thank our outgoing board members Marissa Gavin and Joe Alldredge for their time and support.

If you are looking to get involved or have an idea for programming or an event, please reach out to one of us, we’d love to hear from you!

Please, stay safe and healthy, and hopefully we’ll all be back at work soon.

    Cheers,

    La Beene
    Past Chair, Intermountain Desert Region
